Cameroon vs Egypt, is the official Kick-off match ofvthe 2016 Women’s AFCON, scheduled from the 19th November to December 3rd.
This follows the draw for the competition which landed Cameroon, Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe in Group A and Nigeria, Mali, Ghana and Kenya in Group B.
The CAF Deputy Secretary General, Essam Ahmed was charged with conducting the draws out last Sunday, 18th September 2016 at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex in the presence of the President of the Federation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou, President of FECAFOOT, Tombi a Roko Sidiki and the Head of the Local Organising Committee, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Kpwatt.
Chairing the grand ceremony on behalf of Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang extended the President’s greetings to everyone.
The Head of Government then went on to say organising the 2016 AFCON gives Cameroon the opportunity to showcase its organisational and technical capacities.
The Prime Minister also hailed the initiative of a women’s competition, calling it a milestone in promoting gender and fighting discrimination.
Cultural displays from Cameroon and beyond were included in the rich plate served at the sports complex.
Even the presentation of the mascot, Lili was accompanied with much excitement.

A highpoint of the day was the presentation of the theme song of the competition; a song composed by Cameroon’s Romeo Dika and sang by Charlotte Dipanda and Richard Kings; a bilingual song, revealing Cameroon’s commitment to bilingualism.
Some legendary Cameroonian sportsmen were present at the event to throw-in their weight to the success of the ceremony.
